Back to School: Rebuilding Connection First
The return to classrooms marks a significant and positive step for school communities, restoring a sense of normality after weeks of disruption. Speaking on Eye on Education on Dubai Eye 103.8, Michael Bloy noted that while learning continued online, it is the social connection between students — friendships, interaction, and daily routines — that has been most missed.
He explained that Repton Dubai is intentionally prioritising relationships, routine, and helping students feel safe and settled before placing full emphasis on academics. Teachers are paying close attention to how students are adjusting, looking out for signs of anxiety or pressure, while also recognising the resilience many children have shown. Practical strategies, including simple breathing techniques, are also being used in classrooms to support students’ wellbeing.
Michael also emphasised the importance of clear communication with parents, ensuring families understand safety measures and feel reassured about the return. While most students are now back on campus, with attendance levels around 85-90% and expected to rise, the school continues to support those who may need more time to transition.
For older students, particularly those in exam years, Michael stressed the importance of taking a steady approach; breaking work into manageable steps to avoid overwhelm and rebuild confidence over time.
His message is reassuring — by putting connection and wellbeing first, Repton Dubai is creating the right environment for students to settle back in and re-engage with learning.
