Supporting Students Through the Move to Senior School at Repton Dubai
The transition from prep to senior school marks a key developmental milestone for children. On Dubai Eye 103.8’s Eye on Education, Jacqueline Lee, Assistant Headteacher at Repton Dubai, spoke with Helen Farmer about how families and schools can work together to guide students through this period of change.
Jacqueline explained that students adapt to new structures, specialist subject teachers, and greater independence, often with more homework and responsibility. To ease this shift, Repton Dubai uses a phased approach including buddy systems, familiarisation days, and dedicated pastoral care. Extracurricular activities also play an important role in building friendships and confidence.
For parents, the transition often means less day-to-day contact with teachers, but communication remains strong through form tutors, heads of year, and regular meetings. Jacqueline encouraged families to see the process as gradual, supported by consistent routines and guidance in time management and organisation.
Reflecting on her role, she shared the joy of watching pupils grow in confidence—whether on stage, in sports, or through new challenges—underscoring the lasting impact of a well-supported transition to senior school.
