Game-Based Learning: Building Skills for the Future at Repton Dubai
Gaming is no longer just a pastime. It’s a growing global industry and an increasingly valuable educational tool. On a recent episode of Dubai Eye 103.8’s Eye on Education, Devon Jamison, Digital Learning Coordinator and Computer Science Teacher at Repton Dubai, shared how the school is integrating game-based learning into the classroom.
Devon, a former competitive gamer, explained how platforms like Kodu, Game Maker, and even VR technology are helping students develop real-life skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and self-management. He highlighted how these approaches not only make learning fun and interactive but also open doors to diverse career paths in areas like design, coaching, and digital innovation.
Acknowledging parental concerns around screen time, Devon emphasised the importance of balance, responsible digital engagement, and open conversations at home. He encouraged families to see gaming as an opportunity to connect with their children, support their passions, and understand the communities they are building online.
