A quarter of Repton Dubai students score 40+ points in their IB Diploma

Dubai, UAE: (6 July 2020): Today we celebrate top marks achieved by our students in this year’s International Baccalaureate (IB) examinations, with nearly a quarter of our students achieving over 40 points. At Repton School Dubai, all pupils were entered for either the IB Diploma Program or the IB Careers-Related Programme, demonstrating the support afforded to every individual as they strive to achieve their best.

Repton students once again produced some excellent results and will attend the most prestigious of universities. This year’s prefect team have set a superb standard for their peers and led by example.

Our Head Girl, Jeanne Semple achieved 44 points – a new record for Repton Dubai – and a score achieved by fewer than 1% of students worldwide. Semple will read Law at the London School of Economics (LSE). Not to be outdone, our Head Boy, Abdulla Al Shirawi secured an offer to read Physics at Stanford University. Christian Holland, Deputy Head Boy, attained 42 points and will read German and Arabic at St Andrews, while Deputy Head Girl, Michelle Elliot will travel to Cardiff University to read Biomedical Sciences.

“We are extremely proud to announce that our IB students passed their IB examinations with record results. Students who took the IBDP examinations scored an average of 34.4 points, well above the global average of 30 points and bettering last year’s average DP score, and at the top end, some 23% of this year’s IB students attained 40 points or more (compared to the most recent global average of 13.82%). I would like to congratulate our students for their hard work and commitment, which has come to fruition as evidenced by their stellar performance this year” says David Cook, Headmaster, Repton School Dubai.

With a quarter of all students securing 40 points or above, our students were able to secure places to read a variety of subjects at some of the most prestigious universities across the world. Yuri Izumikawa secured 42 points and will read Cognitive Science at Johns Hopkins University in the US, whilst her twin sister, Mari Izumikawa attained 41 points and will study at a Japanese university; Aditya Gangwani attained 41 points to read Management at Warwick University; Polina Dorfman secured 40 points to read Economics at St Andrews; Raphael Fabre attained 40 points to earn a place at UC Berkeley; and Omar Al Hashimi secured 40 points to read Medicine at University College London.

Destination Universities for our Class of 2020:

“We would also like to congratulate the parents and the teaching staff for working together and investing significant time and energy to support our students, ensuring that they excel and strive towards outstanding results, preparing them for a strong academic future. The IB programme is recognised for its high standards and academic rigour by leading universities across the world, and that is an important consideration for Repton School Dubai, which accommodates such a diverse range of nationalities,” says Cook.

Repton’s IB Careers-Related Programme and BTEC students also continued to record tremendous results: Marcus Dutton secured a golf scholarship in America, while Aman Thakkar will travel to The University of Birmingham to study Business Management. The highly sought after starred distinctions in BTEC were carefully tailored to IBDP subjects, to create a bespoke IBCP programme.

Additionally, IBCP students have successfully graduated from the programme; having completed a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Business within the IB Careers-Related Programme, alongside DP subjects which are the equivalent of A Levels in themselves. Yet another highlight for Repton School Dubai is that 100% of Emirati pupils who completed the examinations have successfully earned their IB Diploma or IBCP certificate, in line with the region’s aim of prioritising the education of its younger generations.

We have offered the IB programme since 2011 and continue to achieve a progressively higher group average score each year. The IB programme encourages both personal and academic achievement, challenging students to excel in their studies as well as within external fields including creativity, sport, and service.

“We embrace the IB programme because it remains our aim to develop well-rounded students who possess the attributes and skills required to meet the challenges of tomorrow,” concludes Cook.
