French Trip Blog Part 3

Monday, 24 May 2010: Today we woke up at our normal time 8.30 and were ready by 9.30 except for Amenah. Our skills were tested on the Metro without having Bruno lead the way. Luckily we made it and nobody got left behind. We started the day with Paris' most famous landmark and tourist attraction - the Eiffel Tower. We got some great pictures of the whole tower before heading down the River Seine on a boat. The ride was one hour and it was a lovely cruise down the river. Afterwards we all had lunch by the river and headed up to the Eiffel Tower. The lines were long but we finally made it right to the top. The view was spectacular and it was a lot quicker on the way down. Afterwards we took a scenic, but hot, walk towards Notre Dame. We took a pitstop at a park where most of us relaxed, though some played a noisy game of snap. Bruno gave us some history on the Medieval, gothic church and showed us the spot that marked the exact centre of France (from where all the distances are measured). We all took a tour around the church and headed over to a small park where we had some shopping time at some nearby shops. We had dinner at a fancy restaurant. The food was delicious, as usual. Miss Loten treated us all to ice cream to end a perfect day.

It has been a very hot and tiring day and we certainly needed a few pauses for water and ice cream. But the chatter continues and spirits are high with everybody joining in right to the end. They all paid attention to where they were going on the Metro today, having pre-planned the route to take themselves. We also took the RER for the first time - we take it again to go to Eurodisney tomorrow. Before we head off in the morning they will all go to the Post Office to buy stamps for their postcards. Patrick was a complete gentleman, giving up his seat for a lady on the Metro. A Japanese lady on the Eiffel Tower took a liking to Reidyl calling him lovely. Matthew has come up with some beautiful and correct sentences. Yasmin was quiet to start but couldn't stop chatting in the evening.
