French Trip Blog Part 2
Sunday, 23 May 2010: Today was our third day. We woke up at 8am tired from our adventurous day yesterday. We started with a trip to the Cite des Sciences. After lunch we went to the Centre Pompidou, a modern art museum filled with the newest arts of modern day France.

The group is getting used to travelling on the Metro. Tomorrow we will see if they can mange to get us to the Tour Eiffel without any help from the adults. They do tend to talk a lot and not really pay attention to where they are going so I hope they all have their mobile phones ready!
At the Cite des Sciences we saw a film in the IMAX cinema about life under sea which was very impressive. A lot of the students managed to pick up some new words as the narration was in French. We also watched a film in 3D about the sun and the planets. Again this was in French but the visuals helped them to understand.
In the afternoon we wandered around and visited Les Halles and then sat and watched a street singer. Nearly all the students sat and got a cartoon of themselves drawn by the local artists. They are very good. And then we went into the Centre Pompidou. The art there is very different and some of them remarked on the contrast between the art they saw today and the art they saw yesterday at Le Louvre.
After that we went to a very nice restaurant and ate some good French food. In the evening back at the hotel they all wrote their postcards and their journals. I have asked them to write a postcard to a teacher back at Repton so that they have to go into the Post Office to buy a stamp. Tomorrow is a holiday in France so we will buy the stamps the day after.
They are all coping well with the walking but are looking tired at the end of the day. The chatter does not stop, however.
Vic is making excellent progress with basic phrases. Patrick is getting the hang of the Metro map. Charles is being very helpful to everybody. Amenah is showing good understanding of both the language and the modern art.
Full day tomorrow.
