Houses and Pastoral Care
House System
Whether as a boarder or day pupil or a boarder, the House system provides the time and opportunity to explore talents outside of the classroom. The success of our pupils through the academic curricula and co-curricular activities is about the breadth and depth of the curriculum that we offer.
The House is every Reptonian’s home in School, where their relationships with peers and members of staff are developed within a stable base in a busy school day. We recognise the unique partnership between Housemaster / Housemistress and parents.
There are eight Houses which encompass both day and boarding pupils – Brook, Dahl, Foremarke, Jumeirah, Latham, New, Orchard and School. Each House is run by a Housemaster / Housemistress with a team of dedicated tutors for each respective year group, every house has a tutor group from every year. Each tutor takes an active interest in all that the pupils undertake, individually or as part of the wider school community.
The essence of House life, though, is its inclusive nature: pupils of all ages, boarders and day pupils, and staff too, are thoroughly involved in the community be that in Inter-House competitions, plays, concerts, fundraising and everyday school life.
Every Reptonian staunchly believes that his or her House is the very best in the School!
Boarding
There are two boarding houses at Repton School, Dubai. Each house has a sympathetic Housemaster / Housemistress along with a resident tutor and matron. Both houses have their own prefects who help with different aspects of the running of the house. There is a dedicated medical centre on the school site where pupils can see the school Doctor and Nurse when needed. The Housemaster / Housemistress looks after the academic and pastoral welfare of the boarding pupils as a tight knit community. The pupils feel part of a ‘home away from home’. The cohesive nature of the boarding family life is fostered with dining altogether as a House, providing the opportunity for pupils to chat together and with staff, and to relax within familiar surroundings at the end of the school day and over the weekend.
Accommodation varies slightly for the boys and girls, however, the younger pupils are in a shared room whereas the older pupils are in individual rooms. Each House has a Common Room with comfortable sofas and entertainment systems. All the pupils have access to the school network for their studies in their rooms. Within the Houses there are separate kitchens for the boys / girls which are stocked with groceries for them to make snacks throughout the school day.
Tutoring
Tutoring plays an integral part of the day to day life of staff and pupils. All members of Repton have a tutor who is generally responsible for their academic and social well-being. The tutoring is House based and a tutor looks after same group until they leave school. The tutor will oversee the pupils’ university application in addition to the Director of IB and Sixth Form. PSHCE is delivered by the tutors in their respective houses every three weeks. Each year group follows a dedicated programme covering a range of topics that provide the pupils with formative information.
