The Upper Section Curriculum – Years 10 and 11

In Years 10 and 11, pupils study GCSE and IGCSE courses. Repton is an accredited exam centre for Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) and Edexcel Examinations.

Compulsory subjects in Years 10 and 11 are English, Maths and Science, (all pupils must study Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Pupils then need to choose 4 subjects from the wide variety of GCSE and IGCSE courses that we offer. One of these choices must be a Modern Foreign Language.

For September 2011, we are offering the following optional subjects:

Geography
History
Business Studies
Economics
Art
Music
Drama
Information Communication Technology (ICT)
Design and Technology (DT)
Physical Education
Spanish
French
German
Mandarin
Arabic

Many IGCSE and GCSE courses have different components, which together determine the final grade that the student obtains. Examination taken at the end of Year 11 make up one component, the other component is coursework or, in the case of Art, a combination of Coursework and Project work. Coursework assignments are set by the students' teachers and are completed during class time and at home. Coursework usually accounts for between 30% and 50% of the total mark for an IGCSE or GCSE subject.

More detailed information about our curriculum in Years 10 and 11 is available in the "Options Choices Booklet" which can be downloaded as a PDF file here.
