International Public Examinations at Repton School

International Public Examinations at Repton

The public examinations undertaken at Repton School in Dubai have been very carefully chosen for their benefits to our pupils. They are all administered by independent international examining bodies – Cambridge International Examinations, Edexcel and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).  These are independent organisations that are not liable to individual government influence.

The examinations themselves are well-established, of proven integrity and validity, and more widely recognised as such by more international educational institutions than other comparable examinations.  In short this means our pupils, whether when they graduate or if they have to move on, will have much greater chances of obtaining university places of their choice or of being accepted in other schools worldwide.

The examinations are criterion-based to ensure transparent standardization. They also offer students valuable feedback in terms of written diagnostic reports that they may learn from their performance in order to improve further in the next stage of their education.
The examinations undertaken by Middle and Upper Section pupils are as follows:

Year 8 – Option for Common Entrance/13+ test to be taken;
Year 9 and 10 – Option for early entry to IGCSE examinations dependent on ability.
Year 11 – IGCSE Examinations with option for Additional Maths qualification dependent on ability and attainment.
Year 13 (Sixth Form) – IB Diploma* and IB Certificate examinations dependent on ability and attainment.

These examinations are delivered in a variety of ways dependent on the subject ranging from formal written papers to coursework and assessed presentation material.  All are geared to an understanding of how to use knowledge effectively with the focus on attainment through the development of effective knowledge skills rather than focussing purely on recall.

*In order to gain entry to the IB Diploma programme, a minimum of 6 B grades at IGCSE is required.
