Curriculum Management
Both Middle and Upper Section students enjoy a wide range of subjects taught by experienced subject specialists. These subjects are administered under a faculty system that ensures that our students receive the broadest scope of study. Since our children will ultimately be aiming to undertake the IB Diploma Programme (IBDP) they will be exposed to elements of the IB Middle Years Programme (IBMYP) in Years 7 to 11. Academic subjects will be grouped according to the IB Hexagon structure. The six academic faculties are Languages A, Languages B, Individuals and Society, Experimental Sciences, Maths and Computer Studies, Arts and Electives. Under each faculty aegis, several disciplines or departments will supervise individual subject curriculum.
Students in Years 7 to 9 will study an average of 13 academic subjects, and students in Year 10 will be able to study up to 11 subjects. In addition to providing necessary skills and knowledge for Years 10 and 11, the aim of the Middle Section is to give our students a broad grounding in academic subjects, and to foster key life and study skills. The same policy applies to Upper Section students with regards the Sixth Form. With very few exceptions, academic subjects have been chosen for the curriculum because they can be studied continuously from Year 7 right through to Year 13.
In this regard, the Senior School curriculum has – to an extent – been designed with our students’ graduation needs in mind. For example students who have the ambition to study Journalism at university are able to make specific subject choices throughout their years in Repton in order to best fulfil the university entry requirements. They could study English A in Years 7 to 9, and Media Studies in Years 9 to 11, and English A2 as part of their IB Diploma in Years 12 and 13.
