Stephen Fantom
Music Teacher
My name is Stephen Fantom and I have been married to Katie since 2003. We have a lovely son called Archie who attends the nursery school at Repton Dubai.
I am a Music Teacher here at Repton Dubai. I was attracted to this project not only because my family and I wanted the experience of a new and challenging adventure in a unique and ancient culture, but because I have been struck by the excitement, enthusiasm and passion displayed by all of the Repton Dubai team.
I began teaching in 2005 following a career dedicated to dance, live music and theatre as a SoundSystem Engineer & Designer. I collaborated on projects with international choreographers, musicians and directors; calling on my music training to articulate the artists sound reinforcement requirements. This role took me to large scale Theatres across the globe including China and Russia, whilst touring extensively into some of the UK most prestigious Theatres, and working for international performing arts festivals. I am also an associate member of the Institute of Acoustics: Having gained my Diploma in Acoustics & Noise Control I trained as a consultant for one the UK’s leading acoustics consultancies.
I am now a Music Teacher - I job I enjoy very much. Since qualifying as a teacher from Oxford Brookes University in the UK I have taught Music & Music Technology, Performing Arts and Technical Theatre, and also tutored Trombone, Trumpet, and Piano.
Today’s young learners need a relevant, differentiated, imaginative, pupil-centered curriculum; delivered through an organised, well resourced, team lead, departmental scheme of work that is under constant scrutiny and review. In my teaching I have always tried to provide a creative, dynamic, happy and secure learning environment that promotes self-expression through academic and non-academic experiences. I also demonstrate and demand high expectation of achievements and success so that children can fulfill their greatest potential. But most importantly I firmly believe in the power of laughter: Children and young adults respond and thrive in a classroom that is light hearted and caring. By treating children with care and respect demonstrates the values key to their successful development into adulthood.
Extra curricular and enrichment activities are an important way in which students and teachers can develop strong relationships that can be further nurtured in the classroom. As well as being a practicing musician, I am a keen runner, cyclist, footballer and hiker, and encourage participation in any sport to promote a healthy lifestyle and a competitive, fair personal attitude.
My work in the creative arts has equipped me with the skills to communicate and relate to people from all walks of life. I enjoy working closely with colleagues and friends who share a common purpose and goal –nurturing team building as well as encouraging individual growth and development.
I find working with young people both a pleasure and a challenge. I am committed to student academic, artistic, and spiritual development in equal measures and will immerse myself in the challenge of joining the Repton Dubai team who can offer their students the opportunity to fulfil their greatest possible potential.
