Whatever Floats your Boat
Monday 28th November 2011
The Eco Pirates take part in the ‘Whatever floats your Boat’ Challenge, Friday 25th November 2011, Dubai Festival City Promenade.
On Friday 25th November four Year 7 pupils took part in an event called ‘Whatever Floats your Boat’. The challenge involved building a boat made out of recycled materials. Pupils then had to race against other schools along the Creek at the Dubai Festival City Marina.
‘Whatever Floats your Boat’ is organised by Dubai Festival City and brings both schools and corporate teams together to raise funds and awareness of recycling and charities; World Wildlife Fund (EWS-WWF) and the Marine Turtle Conservation Project.
Pupils had spent the last 8 weeks collecting materials and building their recycled boat. Although the team did not make it to the finish line they did win the prize of AED1,000 worth of shopping vouchers for the best dressed team, as they all kept with the theme of their team name and dressed up as pirates.
The day was a huge success, not only did the pupils have a fun filled day, the event managed to raise an impressive AED105,000, which will be used completely towards the outstanding work being done by the Emirates Wildlife Society (EWS) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) to help save the lives of Dubai’s native turtles. The event also helped to raise awareness of the importance of recycling.
Thank you to all staff and parents who came to support on the day of the event.
We are now looking forward to what hopes to be an even bigger and better event next year at what will be the event’s 5th anniversary.
