Former England Cricketer Martin Saggers Arrives at Repton School in Dubai

Repton School in Dubai is pleased to announce that we have secured former Kent and England Cricketer Martin Saggers as Head Coach of our cricketing teams.

Martin has come on board as a P.E Teacher and will run all the Extra-Curricular Activities for cricket in the Junior and Senior School at Repton.

Martin Saggers has been a professional cricketer since 1996.  He is a Fast-Medium swing bowler who has represented Durham, Essex and The MCC in First Class cricket. He has also played the past 11 seasons for Kent and played in 3 Test Matches for England against New Zealand and Bangladesh in the 2003/4.

Saggers was the leading First Class wicket taker in the country in 2002 with 83 First Class wickets and 111 wickets in all competitions, he has taken over 600 professional wickets during his career and then had to retire through injury at the end of the 2009 season.  He has best First Class bowling figures of 7/79 against his former County Durham and his best batting was 64 against Worcestershire. He is one of only five cricketers in history to take a wicket with his very first delivery in test cricket on English soil.

Saggers is married and has two children and has brought them with him here to Dubai.  He hopes to improve the standards of cricket in Dubai and wants to expand his methods of teaching and experience into local cricket clubs in the region.

I am delighted to have the opportunity to come here to Dubai and work with the pupils of Repton School, to help them improve their cricketing skills.  I have learned a lot myself over my professional career and I hope to be able to pass my knowledge on, so that we are able to produce a cricketer to go on and represent their respective country.”

We hope that by bringing in experienced sportsman like Martin Saggers that we will be able to offer the children at Repton School the opportunity to train with some of the worlds’ best talent.
