Repton Senior School Library

Repton Senior School Library

Designed and resourced according to CIS and IB recommendations, Repton Senior School Library is now scheduled to open in January 2010.

To be located in an impressive 5-storey building situated between the main school and the Auditorium the Library aims to become an essential and integral part of daily school life.  With the benefit of an excellent range of titles and resources, it will not only meet the curricular and leisure needs of our students and staff but will also provide a vibrant and welcoming environment in which to foster good study and reading habits. Floor to ceiling windows on all levels, coupled with beautiful views of the campus, will undoubtedly add to the ambience of the library and help make it a light, airy and positive space in which to work or read.

With an initial collection of around 8,000 titles, periodicals and audiovisual resources, the library will also house 48 laptops in two fully mobile units that allow for easy access to students on any floor of the library without the space limitations of desk-top PCs.  Peripherals such as scanners and printers will be available on each floor as well as photocopying and reprographic facilities.

The proposed layout of the new library will place our Fiction, Literature and World Literature collections, together with our Periodicals and Audiovisual resources on the first floor.  A range of seating will be available on this level which will incorporate elements of table based seating for study purposes and comfortable seating for those wishing to relax with a good book or periodical.  Our non-fiction collection will be sited on the second floor where seating will be arranged in a way to best facilitate independent quiet study.  Both tables and carrel style study desks will be used in the design. The third floor will be reserved for our IBDP students and for teacher lead sessions with smaller rooms available for private and group study.  Wireless internet connection, laptops, photocopiers and printers will be available throughout the library.

Whilst we await completion of the building, a temporary library has been set up on the first floor of the main school building and our library staff are busy processing the further 3,500 new titles that have been delivered in readiness for the new library.  These resources will be available for use within the next few weeks.

As part of our ongoing development programme, the Library will shortly switch to a new library management system.  This system will enable staff and students not only to access their library accounts online from any PC but also to check the current status of any loans they might currently have out, to renew and reserve resources and to search our collection for titles and bibliographic information.

All students and staff are automatically members of the library and a user account will be be set up.

The Library is open at all times throughout the school day and students and staff are encouraged to make maximum use of this facility, whether it be for study, to catch up on the news, to lose themselves in a book or to simply sit down and unwind.

All students , staff and parents are invited to play an active role in the library's future and any suggestions you may have for its development and growth will be gratefully received .

It goes without saying that all library users are required to abide by certain rules whilst in the library, and should familiarize themselves with the library policy regarding usage (please see below).
