Previously at schools in Scotland and the Czech Republic, Miss Clarke has experience of high-quality education in the UK and overseas. Formerly Head of Y3, Miss Clarke was appointed as Head of Pre-Prep Department in September 2010. She is supported in her role by Miss Jo Smith (Head of Y3) and Mrs Karen Atkins (Head of Y4)
Entering into the Pre-Prep is an exciting and pivotal time in a child’s educational journey. Having blossomed in the security and familiarity of the Infant department, the children are now equipped to become more independent, both educationally and socially. Our staff’s aim is to gently support and encourage this natural progression. Our curriculum has been written to closely follow on from that of the Infants’ and ensures a smooth transition for the children. We build on the excellent teaching in the Infants and further expose the children to a more structured and traditional approach to learning. The children are taught spelling, grammar, comprehension and writing. These are done through separate lessons alongside formal methods of calculation in Mathematics, all taught by the class teacher.
Homework is set on a daily basis. This aids a child’s learning and is an extension to what is happening in the classroom. We place a high emphasis on homework and expect it to be completed on time and to the same high standard of work taking place in the classroom.
The children are fortunate to be exposed to a number of specialist lessons each week. These include, Arabic, Science, P.E., French, I.C.T, Music and Art. The curricular experience in Year 3 and 4 is geared towards preparing children for the ISEB syllabus used in the Prep department, and successful completion of the Common Entrance Exam used by Independent Schools across the U.K.
There is a wealth of expertise amongst the Pre-Prep staff team at Repton culminating in years of experience teaching at top schools both internationally and throughout the U.K. Each staff member is fully committed to Repton and its values. These core values are clearly displayed around the school and are at the heart of the pastoral and educational care the children receive during their time at Repton. We expect all pupils to have respect for themselves, their peers and all adults within Repton and the wider community. This is evident by the excellent behaviour in class, in the playground and the impeccable manners which are displayed throughout the school. Children hold doors for adults, politely greet visitors and support each other. Developing a strong moral character and a social awareness are essential aspects of the work within the Pre-Prep Department.
