Message from the Head

At Repton Prep School we aim to build on the considerable strengths of the Junior School. We look to prepare our pupils for the next stage of their academic life and work closely with our Senior School to ensure that those in our charge are ready to meet the challenges that they will encounter on the next stage of their educational journey.
We look to build on the strong pastoral foundations which our Junior School provides and aim to nurture the qualities of respect for self and for others. We aim to encourage our pupils to take responsibility for thoughts, words and actions and to act with decency, kindness, determination and purpose. As with our prestigious and historic partner school, Repton School in the United Kingdom, the twin goals of education and community are central to all we try to achieve.
As the reputation of Repton, Dubai extends throughout the Gulf region and as we continue to strive towards our stated goal, “to create the Middle East’s leading international school” we will look to move from acquiring a reputation towards establishing a tradition. At Repton Prep School our aim is to impart a traditional education with traditional values in a twenty-first century learning environment. As a staff, we take a pride in our commitment to provide individual attention and support to ensure that all of our pupils achieve excellence at their own level.
Repton Prep School will prepare pupils for a world that not only places a high value on educational achievement, but also on artistic flair, social awareness, independence and diversity. Pupils will be given the opportunity to test and develop their talents across a broadly based and academically stimulating curriculum that promotes intellectual, artistic, aesthetic, physical and social development. Extra-curricular activities will also allow deeper exploration of subjects of particular interest as well as the development of individual skills and talents.
Unique to the UAE, Repton Prep School educates its pupils within a traditional independent school framework to the levels expected by the best schools in UK independent education. For entrance into leading UK independent senior schools pupils are expected to sit examinations known as Common Entrance, which can be taken at either 11 years of age (Y6) or 13 years of age (Y8). In recent years, schools have been introducing their own examination papers which may be taken earlier in the year, but these continue to be based on the Common Entrance paper. The examinations are academically demanding and require a standard of the candidates that will only be achieved if a school is specifically working to this level.
Our programme of study is based on the Common Entrance syllabus which is devised and monitored by the Independent School Examinations Boards (I.S.E.B.) but also reflects local culture and traditions in order to develop pupils’ understanding and appreciation.
Whilst anticipating that the majority of our pupils will remain with us and eventually pass into our Senior School at the end of Year 8 (13+) we are aware that the population of Dubai is transient. We would hope that parents are reassured by the fact that the education provided by Repton Prep School will enable a smooth and seamless transfer into all other academic systems at all ages should the need arise.
At Repton Prep School our curriculum will be regularly reviewed and updated as part of our school self evaluation process. It will be responsive to change and adapted or fine tuned each year to meet the needs of our pupils and to encompass new practice and current educational thinking. Each and every Repton pupil will be given the opportunity to fulfil his or her individual potential with the programme of study targeting specific pupil and class needs to ensure that our pupils are challenged, supported and encouraged to achieve excellence at their own pace and at their own level.
Repton Prep children know themselves to be valued members of our school community and are aware of our expectations of them. At every opportunity our pupils are made aware of the importance of accepting and assuming responsibility as opposed to merely seeking privilege and rights. Our pupils have a maturity, a confidence and a nature that is admired and appreciated by all.
It is our hope that our pupils will be proud to call themselves Reptonians; both now and in later life.
