Girls’ Boarding 2011-12
Girls’ Boarding at Repton 2011 - 2012
Girls’ boarding at Repton is unique in being the first girls’ boarding facility in the Middle East. The girls live in two villas off the school campus. Currently there are 16 girl boarders ranging in age from 11 – 17. We are a truly international community with girls from Mozambique, Nigeria, USA, Kazakhstan, Russia, UK, and Iran.
The girls are fortunate to have the best of both worlds as boarders at Repton. While spending time at school, they are able to spend extended periods of time with other girls, building up close and lasting friendships. In the villas, the girls are allowed to treat the space as a family home, and they have access to full kitchen and living facilities, while also enjoying en suite bathroom facilities.
Staffing
There are five resident staff in the girls villas:
Miss Charlotte Phillips – Housemistress
Miss Andrea Davies – Assistant Housemistress
Miss Yvonne Allen – Matron
Miss Fiona Duncan – Post Graduate Assistant
Miss Charlotte Hughes D’Aeth – Post Graduate Assistant
There are three visiting tutors who do evening duties in the boarding house offering pastoral and academic support to the girls:
Miss Helen Allen
Miss Adele Minter
Mrs Hannah Brodie
Study
Time management is one of the most important facets of boarding life, and this is especially true at the weekends when the full boarders develop a good balance between relaxation and study. In order to keep on top of all the academic work that is set at Repton, the girls complete at least another hour of supervised Prep in the villa on weeknights. The girls try to make use of the varied expertise of the resident and non-resident staff, often without too much success especially when it comes to IGCSE Physics!
Weekend Activities
The Thursday night mall trips are a popular feature of the weekend programme which allow the girls to explore many of the malls that Dubai has on offer – Dubai Mall, Mirdif City Centre, Festival City and Mall of the Emirates.
Friday is a quiet day at the villa where the girls use the time to catch up with friends, family and… work! In the evening they either can order a takeaway or can experiment with their own culinary skills!
After another lie in on Saturday, the girls take part in a variety of trips and excursions. Last term the selection included indoor ski-diving, ice-skating, go-karting, bowling and a popular trip to Wild Wadi. This term includes a day trip to Al Ain Zoo and a Laser Quest match.
Achievements
The girls like to keep themselves busy both inside and outside of the classroom. Serena Dougan, Nicole Agbakoba, Assem Mukhtar and Sepideh Esfahani have been members of the U18 Basketball Squad. On the football pitch, Assem Mukhtar and Uljan Sultankulova played for the U18 Girls’ Football team, while Tonye Wabote represented the U14 team. All of the girls play a key role in their house teams, and it is always exciting to see them displaying their competitive edge whether on the football field, or on the go-karting circuit!
