Dahl House

Dahl House is one of eight day Houses and was founded in September 2008 when the Senior School first opened its doors.  The House is named after the famous novelist, poet and screenwriter Roald Dahl who attended Repton School in Derbyshire as a boarder from January 1930 and until July 1934.  Dahl’s works include such favourites as “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “The BFG” and “James and the Giant Peach”.  The first Housemaster of Dahl was Mr Carl Lyon who performed the role for the first three years of the school’s existence.

Dahl encourages self-discipline and a sense of responsibility, and aims to create an environment which is co-operative rather than adversarial. The House encourages pupils to achieve their potential, academically, and to participate positively in the wider aspects of school life.  During Inter-House Competitions the emphasis is placed on participation rather than the winning of trophies, although Dahl has still managed to win a number of competitions including Boys Swimming (2009, 2010 & 2011) and Boys Basketball (2011).

During Dahl House’s short history we can boast many outstanding pupils and many excellent achievements.  In 2010, Dahl House pupil HenriikkaPentti competed in the Young Musicians of the Gulf and was awarded 2nd place and in 2011 Lucy Robb was appointed Head Girl of the School.  ChiragSuri is one of the schools most outstanding cricketers and has captained the School 1st XI for two years.

Andrew Bradley is the Dahl housemaster.  He took on the role in September 2011 and combines it with teaching Physical Education.  He is a particularly keen football and cricket coach.  There are six other members of staff attached to Dahl who assist the housemaster with the academic and pastoral care of the pupils.  They assist in running prep sessions, help monitor academic progress and are a crucial link to parents.

The Dahl House office is located in C1 Block and is the first House office to be found when entering the Senior School.  The contact details for the Housemaster and tutor team are listed below.
